Dr. Cooperman is a physiatrist, a physician with specialized training in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, also known as PM&R, or Physiatry. Physiatry is the branch of medicine which emphasizes the rehabilitation of disorders that produce temporary or permanent functional impairment. Physiatry is unique among medical fields in that its area of expertise addresses the function of the whole patient from a holistic perspective, as compared to many other medical specialties which focus on specific organ systems. Physiatry is about patient-centered care that helps to maximize each person’s level of functional independence and mobility. As a physiatrist, Dr. Cooperman develops an individualized plan for each of his patients by utilizing a non-surgical/non-interventional approach, without the use of opioid/narcotic medications, to help his patients reach their goals.
